As Donald Trump and other jingoistic morons clamor for a clamp down on immigration (hey, we’re here, screw the rest of the world), the WSJ runs another story of the ridiculous, fraudulent Visa scam, the EB-5 Visa program: http://on.wsj.com/28Niqlw.
This program was intended to stimulate foreign real estate investment in distressed areas. God forbid we try and fix this ourselves. Of course like many government programs its original intent has been circumvented by slick lawyers and sleazy real estate sharks. The latest story is about Extell Development, who are looking to raise $200 million to finance a luxury condominium tower on Central Park West (you know, where the poor and disenfranchised live). Somehow Central Park South got “gerrymandered” into a poor neighborhood of NYC (didn’t know there were any left?).
So for a mere $500,000 or a $1 million, a foreign national can invest in this project and get permanent U.S. residency (screw this standing in line stuff). Per the WSJ, “consultants” for Extell are trying to line up 380 Chinese to pony up the $500,000 to fund the project – and getting their permanent U.S. Visa in the process. How the hell there are so many wealthy Chinese when the damn place is supposed to be a Communist state remains a mystery to me. Oh wait, fraud and graft – forgot about that.
In the meantime, we rail about throwing Illegals back to whence they came and preventing immigration from honest, hard-working people clamoring for a little freedom. But if you’ve got some ill-gained wealth, come on over, the fucking U.S. is for sale.
